Brazil and Serbia faced off last Thursday in the group matches of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. As a result of the blow he received from the opponent football player in the 68th minute of the match, the star player of the Brazilian national team, Neymar, turned his right ankle. Neymar, who did not want to leave his friends alone after being injured, stayed on the field for about 11 more minutes. The Brazilian forward left his place to teammate Antony before he could complete the game in the 80th minute of the match.

At the end of the match, it did not go unnoticed that Neymar had swelling on the outside of his right ankle and bounced while walking.

Where exactly is Neymar injured?

When I examine the images at the time of the injury and the photos at the end of the match in detail, I can say that there is an injury to the ligament called ATFL (Anterior Talo-Fibular Ligament) in Neymar's right ankle. To speak for sure, we will have to wait for Neymar's MRI results.

The ATFL ligament is the most commonly injured ligament in almost all patients with ankle sprains. It is usually isolated, that is, it is injured alone, but in some cases, additional injuries may occur. When there is an injury in our body, it is often obvious at the time of trauma whether additional injuries will occur. Factors such as the severity of the trauma and the position of the ankle at the time of injury pose a risk for additional injuries. In the worst case scenario, cartilage injury occurs in the ankle joint, but we see cartilage injuries very rarely after such traumas.

How Many Matches Neymar Can't Play, Can He Continue To The World Cup?

For a clear answer to this, we need to know the degree of injury to the injured ligament in the ankle. We need MR imaging for this. Unfortunately, we do not have MRI images of Neymar, and I did not examine Neymar. The result I got from the images I watched at the moment of injury and at the end of the match; I can say with certainty that Neymar will miss the group games. If the Brazilian national team can not be eliminated and continue on its way, I think that he will take his place in the quarter-finals, if not in the last 16 games.
